Foot Odor
Foot odor is a common condition in children and adults who usually have a problem with excessive sweating. The smell is caused by bacteria and fungus that are attracted to moist areas of the body. When shoes are applied symptoms usually worsen by the lack of evaporation, causing socks and shoegear to smell as well.
Bathing is important as well as wearing appropriate shoegear that allows increase breathability and socks such as synthetic fibers or dri wick type socks. Alternating shoegear, using drying agents/products, and routine decontamination of shoegear with products such as disinfectant sprays may also be helpful.
Your foot and ankle doctor can provide you with other over the counter and prescription products that may be helpful. Other products such as Botox have also been helpful in severe cases.
