Nail Fungus or Onchomycosis
Fungus is a member of the eukaryotic family that contains yeast, mold, and mushrooms. Fungus grows best in warm moist areas which is why public pools, showers, gyms, socks, shoegear and feet are a common area of infection. Fungal infection of the toenail is called Onchomycosis. Fungal infection of the feet is called tinea pedis (also known as athlete's foot).

Other diseases/disorders can also cause similar findings which is why it is important to be evaluated by a foot and ankle surgeon . Problems with the kidneys, lungs, liver, blood disorders, autoimmune diseases can also cause irregularity in the nails.
